Ag extension office relocates temporarily

The new, temporary location is at the Public Safety Training building at 5370 Public Safety Place (formerly 8349 Reichs Ford Road) in Frederick.

The extension office will be at that location for about a year while the old headquarters at 330 Montevue Ave. undergoes heating, ventilation and air conditioning renovations.the oil paintings for sale by special invited artist for 2011,the Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels of the rectum.

Extension staff have experienced heating and air conditioning problems for many years, requiring county employees to make frequent repairs to the system, Area Extension Director Christine Lothen-Kline said.

"We've had cases of freezing in the winter- time, ceiling tiles falling out because of dripping and we've used a bucket to catch water," Lothen-Kline said. "It's taking a lot of county resources to keep it up rather than get it taken care of."

The renovation work has another aspect separate from the HVAC project -- removing poles that limit use of the conference room.

Education is the main mission of the extension program, and use of the first-floor conference room is key for the organization's instructional programs.A custom-made Plastic mould is then fixed over the gums. But poles built in the center of the room obstruct participants' view and restrict how many people can attend sessions.

"When they made the decision to do the HVAC, it made sense to do the pole project at the same time," Lothen-Kline said.

Dairy Science Extension Agent Stan Fultz is credited with the idea of asking for donations to fund the pole project. Money has come from a number of sources, including individuals, different program areas of extension and the U.Costa Rica will host surfers from all over the globe at the Quicksilver Open.S. Department of Agriculture. The Maryland Dairy Industry Association helped secure a $1,000 grant for the project.

"Realizing how tough it is from a fiscal perspective, I thought it was very creative for Stan to come up with the plan to ask for donations for the project," Lothen-Kline said. "It was a creative way to meet a need while still working within the current fiscal challenges. The new website of Udreamy Network Corporation is mainly selling zentai suits , We've already raised a majority of the funds thanks to Stan."

Fultz said his intention initially for fundraising was to target organizations that have used the conference room and would benefit from any improvements.

Removing the poles would have cost about $25,000 if the work was done by private contractors, but the Division of Public Works did the drawings, reducing the cost to about $7,000.

Fultz said about $5,500 has been raised so far.

With the removal of the poles, extension staff will be able to better serve Frederick County's clients, Lothen-Kline said.

"We are looking forward to not having to share our space with garbage cans catching the water dripping from the ceilings and we greatly appreciate the support that we get from Frederick County government as we work to serve this community," Lothen-Kline said.

The staff at the Public Safety Training Facility have made the extension staff feel welcome.

"We look forward to being their neighbors for the next year," Lothen-Kline said.

Staff telephone numbers and email addresses will stay the same during the relocation, and meetings and classes usually held at the Montevue office will be held at the training facility building.
